Motorola had retired the MOTO X brand after 2015, after being taken over by Lenovo the company’s flagship line has been the MOTO Z series of handsets. But recently it seemed that Motorola has decided to revive the MOTO X line of smartphones with a slight twist; They would no longer be flagships but rather the premium mid-range handsets bridging the gap between the MOTO G series and the MOTO Z line. Now it seems the upcoming smartphone has an official name, the MOTO X4.

In a recent leak, it was revealed that the MOTO X4 would be packing Qualcomm’s latest premier mid-range Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC coupled with an Adreno 508 GPU. The device would be complimented with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of onboard storage and will have a 5.5-inch display. To power all this hardware there is a 3800mAh battery unit compatible with an unspecified standard of Qualcomm’s Quickcharge. The MOTO X4 is likely to be running on a slightly augmented version of stock Android. Just like all MOTO handsets released in 2017, it is likely that the device has a fingerprint scanner in the front below the display.
Apart from all this, it seems that in a first for the brand the MOTO X4 will have an IP 68 certification for dust and water ingress protection which is definitely more than the usual oleophobic coating that was applied on earlier Motorola handsets. The device is also rumoured to have an all metal chassis to give it its premium appeal.
