Xiaomi revealed the roadmap for MIUI 9 last month with the launch of the Mi 5X. More precisely, the company said that the public beta would be available first for the Mi 6 and the Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon). Hence, it was released on August 11. After that, 9 devices were scheduled for the new beta ROM. And keeping the promise, the updates for the second batch of devices has been released.
The second batch includes Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi Max 2, Mi Max, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4X. One thing worth mentioning is that this is the global Beta ROM. The builds for all the respective devices can be found on the MIUI forum. If users want to update to these new beta version, they’ll have to be on an older global beta version. The OTA should get to them soon. However, if you are on a stable build, you will have to first unlock the bootloader and flash the update via fastboot. Alternatively, users can wait till the stable builds are released around September.
There is a third phase that will happen in late September which will encompass other Redmi/ Xiaomi devices except for Mi 1/1S and Mi 2A. The third batch includes a long list such as Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 4 (MTK), Mi 4i, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 2, 2S, Mi Note, Redmi 3 Prime, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 Prime.
MIUI 9 is an interesting update with a lot of new features like Smart Assistant, Universal Search, dynamic resource allocation and much more. However, the global beta may not see all new features of the Chinese ROM. The latest builds also come with bug fixes. We will link to the MIUI forum for you if you want to check the builds out.
