The latest leaks point to a device, possibly named the One A9. It’s expected to come later this year packed with the highest specifications.
Recently, the HTC One A9 reportedly visited Geekbench. Dubbed as HTC Aero, it was listed on the benchmarking site packing a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor paired with a hefty 4GB of RAM, which have only been seen once before on the Acer Predator 6 gaming phone. That said, the Aero could have easily been a codename for the One A9.
“The HTC One A9 will apparently utilize either a Mali-T880 MP4 or MP6 GPU for graphics. In addition, the device will come backed by 4 GB of RAM. With this SoC, MediaTek has upped the ante in the battle for powerful processors,” IB times wrote.
It is the largest processor in the industry right now, surpassing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 and Nvidia’s Tegra K1. Add 4GB of RAM onto that, and you have one of the most powerful smartphones on the market. Also, “the chip maker has apparently employed the 20 nm process to manufacture the chipset.” Thus, making the HTC Aero A9 energy efficient by 30%, IB Times added.
“The two are going to be Cortex-A72 cores, which should perform a lot better than the Cortex-A57s in other high-end chipsets. The other eight cores will be Cortex-A53, divided into two different clusters for maximum performance with minimum power drain,”GSM Arenawrote.
The MediaTek Helio X20 scored 5884 which makes it the alpha among processor compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 5’s score of 5084, and the OnePlus 2s score of 4741, Tech Radar reported.
Battery life is going to be the big question on the One A9. With such a large amount of energy needed to power a 2K display and deca-core processor, HTC needs to outfit the smartphone with a killer battery.
The HTC One A9 is expected to debut on Sept. 29. A smartwatch will most likely be announced at the event, alongside another smartphone. This smartphone could be the game changer for HTC. Considering the failure of the One M9, HTC might want to get another flagship out quickly to bring in new customers. It even launched the One M9+ with a 2K display, just to try and entice high-end customers, earlier this year.
