Today might as well be a sad day for OnePlus 2 owners, sad day indeed. Owners of the OnePlus 2 device will be shattered upon hearing the news of an official Android Nougat update coming to their devices. OnePlus 2 owners were eagerly expecting an official update being pushed to their devices to be able to update to Android Nougat 7.0.
Unfortunately, OnePlus 2 devices will NOT be getting an official update to Android Nougat 7.0. There had been a lot tension along the users of OnePlus 2 and we saw them complaining and asking questions from the company that claimed would “Never Settle” for less. However in an official statement to Android Authority the company has stated that the OnePlus 2 devices will not be receiving a Nougat update. In a statement to Android Authority the company stated,
When we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now.
The OnePlus 2 devices were already prone to many problems. Users of OnePlus 2 started reporting the device having problems with heating, battery drain, display fade and connectivity issues. Delayed updates were already a headache for it’s users and now they have to deal with no update at all. According to the company, they didn’t have their software team when the OnePlus 2 was launched. It sort of indicates to the discontinuation of Cyanogen OS & the company developing their own OS, the Oxygen OS.
It is a sad news for OnePlus 2 owners but there’s still a light at the end of the tunnel. Users can still update their devices to Android Nougat unofficially through installing a custom ROM. You can refer our guide on rooting OnePlus 2. There are plenty of custom ROMs available to choose from so go ahead and try one and have the Nougat experience.
