After being fiddled with for some time in the beta version, the colored text status feature is now available for the stable WhatsApp user. We actually reported this development in an exclusive post earlier. If you have been a WhatsApp user, you might have noticed the messaging app receiving a lot of attention from developers even after the Facebook snap up. Another hot feature said to be in the works is digital payment.
Needless to say, the new text status feature requires users to be above v2.17.297 on Android. When updated, users can access the feature under the “Status” tab. Once on that tab, users will see a camera icon on the bottom right and a pencil icon on top of that. To set a new Text Status just click on the pencil.
Users are allowed to choose different fonts, emojis, backgrounds and even links to display as Status. However, they won’t be able to set images or videos here. That remains relegated to the camera button. The Text Status once set remains for 24 hours like images and videos and then they disappear.
The feature is hardly a new one as it has already been integrated into Facebook. It was started in February as a test. The Snapchat-like updates now boast of a huge user base that outnumbers even Snapchat’s original Stories. With WhatsApp just hitting the astronomical billion users per day milestone, the instant messenger is in the final stages of testing digital payments in India.
