SONY has always had some of the more conservative display sizes for their smartphones when Samsung and LG are pushing for displays upwards of ~5.5-inches on their flagships, the frontrunner for SONY will be packing a 5.4-inch display. This does not mean that the brand is not conscious to its fans who want a larger display on their smartphones and this is where the SONY Xperia X Ultra steps in. The Xperia X Ultra is a continuation of the Ultra line of smartphones which skirt the phablet specifications with capable hardware.
The new U Ultra phablet will feature a widescreen display panel of 6.45-inches, the catch being it will have a screen aspect ratio of 21:9 which is more than that of the LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8 line-up which have a ration of 18:9 (2:1) and 18.5:9 respectively. There is no information regarding the device’s resolution though, so we will have to wait for that to be confirmed although it is likely to come with a QHD display at the very least.
The SONY Xperia X Ultra is speculated to carry the Qualcomm’s latest mid-range Snapdragon 660 chipset coupled with the Adreno 508 GPU. The device will carry 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. For the OS the smartphone is running on Android, v.7.0, Nougat. Also, the X Ultra would be IP 68 certified for dust and water resistance like most of SONY’s Xperia line of smartphones.
There are a couple of leaked photos of the Xperia X Ultra which suggest that SONY is finally catching on with the slim bezel design movement. There is still a noticeable forehead and chin bezel though not as pronounced as SONY’s other offerings. The leaked images also show that the device has a stereo speaker setup and NFC. At the back there is a 19-megapixel camera with a 13-megapixel selfie-shooter up-front. The battery powering all this hardware is likely to be a 3050mAh unit with support for Quick Charge 4.0. The back of the X Ultra is rather bare apart from the camera and flash modules. The frame of the device is slightly curved at the edges to promote an easy grip in hand. Keeping with the time frame of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, we should see the SONY Xperia X Ultra arrive sometime later in the next quarter.
