Samsung had introduced its own player in the voice-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) race with the reveal of Bixby during the Galaxy S8’s Unpack event. The roll out though was anything but smooth considering the company took its own time to roll out the AI across large swathes of the world. Now it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) will be the first budget device to sport Bixby.
The Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) has been doing the rounds for some time now and was only recently spotted on TENAA. The budget tablet would be coming with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 series chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. The display as one can infer from the naming convention is an 8.0-inch panel with an HD+ resolution of 800 x1280. On the optics from Samsung has provisioned the budget tablet with an 8-megapixel primary and 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The leak also showed us that the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) will feature a USB Type-C port.
On the software front, the tablet is tipped to be running Android v.7.0, Nougat out of the box under Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI. The design language though will be very similar to the one introduced with the newer flagships like the Galaxy S8 and Note8. This though is not the only similarity, with the appearance of the tablet’s user manual it is more or less certain to ship with Bixby. However, owing to the limited capabilities of the hardware this would be Bixby Home and not Voice. Bixby Home is the contextual card-based UI of Samsung’s latest voice-based AI.
Apart from this, the user manual also leaked that there will be a cellular variant of the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) which would be compatible with 4G networks. The upcoming budget tablet would most likely be showcased to us at IFA 2017, Berlin.
