Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5A, the successor to the Redmi 4A in China. The latest budget offering from Xiaomi is more of a refinement than an upgrade to it’s predecessor. Xiaomi claims that the smartphone will last eight days on a single charge. The device now sports a matte-texture which is similar to metal but lighter and hence the Redmi 5A weighs just 137 grams.
As for specs, the Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels. Interestingly, powering the Redmi 5A is the same Snapdragon 425 SoC(quad core SoC clocked in at 1.4GHz) which was found in the Redmi 4A. This is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage which can be expanded upto 128GB using a microSD card.
The handset is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery which is smaller than the 3120mAh battery found on the Redmi 4A from last year. However, Xiaomi has claimed that the Redmi 5A will provide an 8-day battery life.
As for optics, the device features a 13MP rear camera backed up by a 5MP selfie shooter. The rear facing camera includes a few modes like HDR, panorama, burst mode etc. The Redmi 5A will run on MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is priced at CNY 599 (approx. Rs. 6,000) in China and pre-orders start from Monday, October 23.
