Google’s 1-year-old Pixel smartphones officially retired from their flagship status yesterday at the launch of the Pixel 2 event. There was a lot of excitement around the two devices and now since the duo are official, we look at the India pricing and availability questions. Even though Google’s phones aren’t all the rage in India, Google has laid plans quickly for an Indian launch.
Pixel 2 series Availability in India
The US-based search giant said that pre-orders will kick-off from October 26. The Pixel 2 will start retailing on November 1, while the Pixel 2 XL will be on shelves 15 days later on November 15. Google also stated that the phones will be sold in 1000 + retail stores across India.
Pixel 2 series Pricing in India
The pricing part is where it gets less exciting. It is expected that all variants of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will launch in India deducing from last year’s launch. The sad thing is Google Pixel 2 starts with a whopping Rs 61,000 ($950). And we’re talking about the base 64 GB variant here. The 128 GB variant will make your wallet lighter by Rs 70,000 ($1,075). The bigger sibling starts with Rs 73,000 ($1,122) for the 64 GB, while the 128 GB will cost Rs 82,000 in India. Like the pricing, let us know in the comments below.
The Pixel 2 is the smaller of the two new devices that comes with a traditional display but equally powerful hardware. Google also seems to have committed to increasing bezel size on the Pixel 2 while the rest of the industry wants to shrink it. Yup, just from the look of it, you can see they are bigger than last year. However, this year they have made some use of it with stereo speakers.
The Pixel 2 XL design is where it gets interesting. It has a unique back with the top covered in black glass and the bottom being only metal. Especially, the white and black combination looks really good. This year, Google also has P-AMOLED panels with thin bezels crammed in the Pixel 2 XL. They’ve thrown in waterproofing and stereo speakers as well in the LG-made handset too. And if you care about headphone jacks, you would like to know they don’t exist on the Pixel 2 lineup.
The headline grabber is understandably the camera, as the Pixel set high standards for its successor. It seems that the 12.2 MP sensor on the rear will carry on the lineage. But that will only get clear when detailed reviews come out.
