With the recent partnership of HMD and Zeiss, everyone believes that this could be the start of Nokia’s brand restoration. The Finnish giant which was once the king of mobile devices lost its way from other manufacturers by picking Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS instead the then humble Android OS. Nokia is a well-loved brand and everyone became excited when Nokia finally announced last year their partnership with HMD Global which hopes to restore the name in mobile devices. The earlier launch of new Android Nokia smartphones during MWC 2017 officially confirmed the comeback of the brand. And Although the three smartphones and rebooted Nokia 3310 stole everyone’s attention during the event, the lack of flagship device got many fans disappointed. But leak happens. Pun intended.
Just months after the launch of Nokia 3, 5 and 6, another Nokia smartphone appeared on Geekbench revealing a flagship device with Snapdragon 835. The leak of the then called Nokia 9 continues for months with varying RAM numbers. Then a photo of the said device wrapped in an ugly blue case made rounds on the internet. Weeks later, a video was published by HMD’s photographer on Vimeo showed the Nokia 9 with the three earlier launched devices. The video has since gone from the site. And the rest is history.
Yesterday, photos of transparent protective cases for Nokia 9 (8) appeared online. Posted by Nokia dedicated blog, NokiaPowerUser, the cases seems to reveal some clue regarding the look and design of the device.
The rear of the transparent protective case contains a vertical cut-out on the upper middle which the dual-camera and heart-rate monitor will be located. The top left of the device contains a 3.5mm headphone jack. The volume and power button is located on the upper left side, while the USB Type-C, primary speaker and microphone are all located at the bottom.
Nokia 9 (8) will come with 5.3-inch curved QHD OLED display with Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The device will be using the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of ROM. At the optics department, the Nokia 9 (8) will either have a 13MP or 22MP dual rear-facing camera with Zeiss optics. The new device is expected to be unveiled in months. So stay tuned.
