While remains unconfirmed, Juho Sarvikas, CPO for HMD Global, suggested on a tweet that WhatsApp might soon be coming on the Nokia 8110 4G. The Nokia retro phone featuring KaiOS (forked from Firefox OS), is leading the smart featurephone market which aims to deliver smartphone features on keypad-based phones.

The tweet isn’t exactly about the “Banana Phone”. But instead the announcement of JioPhone 2 along with the availability of YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp on JioStore.
Unlike Android and iOS, KaiOS doesn’t have a central app store that any phones running the OS can access. Instead, these phones come preinstalled with OEM specific app store.
KaiOS Technologies refuse to comment for its future plans. But it is almost certain that WhatsApp will soon make its way on the Nokia 8110 4G.
Hi Bilash! We hope you understand that we cannot comment on specific updates and/or release plans.

The Nokia 8110 4G already come preinstalled with social media apps like Facebook and Twitter. It is also the first to have built-in Google apps like Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search and even YouTube. Of course, this is the result of the growing Google/HMD Nokia partnership.
Last month, Google has thrown in $22 million into KaiOS as part of its plan to dominate the software market.
According to KaiOS, there have been over 40 million KaiOS featurephones shipped so far. Counterpoint Research also suggests that shipments grew 11,400 percent year-on-year to reach 23 million in Q1 2018.
In India alone, KaiOS-devices has already overtaken iOS to become the second-most popular devices only after Android handsets.
These numbers are enough to convince Google to invest in the company, now that they have partners coming forward to lead.
