Meizu is one manufacturer that has resisted temptations for a thin-bezel phone the longest. But not for long. A set of leaked images found on rumour gold mine Weibo gives us a first glance at an upcoming mid-ranger. The Meizu M6S as it appears will also be the first Meizu handset to boast of the 18:9 aspect ratio display.
Meizu’s CEO had earlier stated that the company is not planning to launch a bezel-less handset in 2017. But it seems that didn’t hold up for long. The Meizu M6S is expected to be launched in December. Meizu’s implementation of the fingerprint reader on the sides is very reminiscent of Sony but very interesting. The large screen also means that the mBack button used for pretty much all navigation needs has disappeared from the front.
Among other specs, the Meizu M6S is tipped to come with a 5.7-inch FHD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. A MediaTek MT6793 SoC is expected to do the heavy lifting on the smartphone. The processor could be assisted by 3 GB RAM and 32 GB expandable storage. The handset will be a Redmi Note 5 competitor in all likelihood as its price tag is estimated to be 1000 Yuan ($151).
No dual camera for the Meizu M6S as rumours talk about a single 13 MP shooter on the rear of the phone. Further, a mediocre 5 MP front-facing selfie lens is tipped to be on the front. We’ll likely be rounding up the year’s bezel-less trend with the final Meizu launch on December 20th, 2017.
