Before bezel-less became a trend, there was the phablet category. A category that consisted of huge phones with 6 + inches of screen size and a similar body to boot. As thin bezels became a thing, 6-inch screen size became the norm, and everybody now has a phablet. But the niche category will prevail. And so will handsets like the Mi Max. Speaking of which, we’re reminded of a refresh of the series that is due. The MI Max 3 will launch next year after the Redmi Note 5 and we have some huge info regarding the handset.
Coming from Chinese tech circles, it is being reported that Mi Max 3 will be almost a tablet with a near 7-inch screen. Also, the bigger screen will fit in a similar mould as the Mi Max 2 body. Xiaomi will also adopt an 18:9 aspect ratio for this to be possible. This will result in a similar body dimension like last year and still accommodate a bigger screen.
Another addition will be a dual camera setup at the back of the chassis. We’ve yet to see Xiaomi bring dual cameras to the sub-15k segment, but 2018 might finally be that year.
With a bigger screen comes a bigger battery. And reports say that the Mi Max 3 will be fitted in with a massive 5,500 mAh battery. It will also support fast charge 3.0 and reverse charging.
Another tidbit coming out from the same report is the processor info. Mi Max 3 is expected to have 2 variants. The high-end variant will sport the Snapdragon 660 SoC, while the standard variant will sport the Snapdragon 630.
The Mi Max 2 was launched in May 2017. It is not yet known whether Xiaomi plans to launch its refresh earlier this year.
