Google’s Tez app developed for UPI-based digital payments in India just went official today. There is already a launch event set for today but the website tez.google.com has gone live earlier. The app is downloadable for both Android and iOS. The app provides a fast one tap payment solution to Indian users and competes with BHIM app. Google has partnered with Axis, ICICI, HDFC for the new service. Also, all major banks are under the roof of this service, hence Tez can be used with all of them.
The app also comes in multiple regional languages like Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, and Kannada. Google also added a security feature in the app called ‘Tez Shield’ which watches malicious activity on your account. Another useful feature is ‘Cash Mode’. Whats unique about cash mode is that it doesn’t require even a VPA address to transfer money to closeby friends.
Now, if you know United Payments Interface (UPI), you might know that it is based on VPA. When you register for UPI payments, you are given a virtual address. This is VPA. This allows instant payments without having to enter receiver account details. The setup for Tez is also fairly simple. You add your bank details and link the account to Tez. And you can start making payments straight away.
Google also has some promo offers running for new adopters for now. Google’s Tez app debuts at a time when the race for a digital payment app is heating up with WhatsApp and Samsung Pay and others bringing their own solution to India.
