Arris TM1602 Features

1. 16×4 channel bonding (up to 24×8 with separate license)
The Arris TM1602 is DOCSIS 3.0 certified, which means it supports channel bonding. For personal use, the Arris TM1602 is capable of up to 16 downstream channels, and up to 4 upstream channels. However, if you are a business owner, you can opt for a separate license that will enable up to 24 downstream channels, and up to 8 upstream channels.
Channel bonding works by using each available channel to maintain the speed of your internet connection during peak hours. To accommodate all the data traffic during peak hours, your internet service provider has to limit the speed of each channel. A router that only supports DOCSIS 2.0 will suffer most from this since it only has a single channel to provide to the users.
Routers with DOCSIS 3.0, on the other hand, will provide a more stable internet connection because it has multiple channels to utilize. The Arris TM1602, for example, offers up to 16 downstream channels, and up to 4 upstream channels. It can even reach up to 24 downstream channels, and 8 upstream channels using separate licenses if you are a business owner. That means, even after the speed limitations set by the internet service provider for each channel, the TM1602 will still provide almost the same internet speed by combining the speed available at each of the channels. 2. High-quality, two-line VoIP service
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also known as IP telephony, works by converting our voice into a digital signal, allowing us to communicate directly from our computer, or VoIP phone using the internet instead of the traditional analog method, or Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS). It is a more efficient method, providing a wider range than our classic landline.

3. Dual-stack IPv4/IPv6
The Arris TM1602 supports dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6. The Internet Protocol version 6, or IPv6, is the next-generation Internet Protocol (IP), which aims to replace the more common IPv4 in the near future. It has a lot of new features like eliminating Network Address Translation (NAT), auto-configuration, better multicast routing, simplified, and more efficient routing among many others. Unlike the IPv4, which only uses 32-bit addresses for its internet addresses, the IPv6 utilizes 128-bit Internet addresses. About 1028 times larger than the number of addresses the IPv4 uses. However, as mentioned above, IPv4 is still the more widely use Internet Protocol and will remain that is for the next couple fo years.
Arris TM1602 both support the older IPv4 and the recent IPv6 standard. That means this modem will work just fine even we all completely transition to IPv6 standard in the future.
