Apple’s manufacturer in India has revealed some crucial news regarding the next iPhone. Wistron, a company with which Apple recently started working with, in an effort to reduce the iPhone prices, has stated that the next generation iPhones will include wireless charging and waterproofing.
Waterproofing was a feature that Apple introduced with the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus and hence it is no surprise that the future iPhones will feature it too. Several rumours have claimed that the iPhone 8 will indeed include wireless charging. A recent report also stated that wireless charging is coming to all the 2017 iPhones. This Wistron report however just specifies that “future iPhones” will get the feature and doesn’t talk about particular models.
This is what Robert Hwang, CEO of Wistron had to say:
“Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit.”
Currently, Wistron only manufacturers the iPhone SE which doesn’t feature any of the mentioned features. Since the statement does not say iPhone 8 or the iPhone 7s, this statement may only be applicable to future iPhones.
However several reports have claimed that the 10th anniversary iPhone will feature wireless charging. The iPhone 8 is set to be the flagship smartphone of 2017, and is expected to cost over a $1000. That said, it is high time Apple brings this feature as Android phones have enjoyed this advantages for many years now.
